• Description: 1,3,6-Trimethyl uracil is a dihydro derivative of uracil. It is a proton acceptor and has been studied for use as an inhibitor in transfer reactions. 1,3,6-Trimethyl uracil has also been shown to be effective in the inhibition of the reaction between phosphorus oxychloride and methyl proton. The hydration of 1,3,6-trimethyl uracil occurs at low temperatures and the hydrated form has been observed by infrared spectroscopy. This compound can be prepared from iodopyrimidine by treatment with phosphorus oxychloride and methyl proton.
