Tetraconazole is an antifungal drug that inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a component of fungal cell membranes. Tetraconazole has been shown to be more potent than fluconazole in inhibiting Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains. It has also been shown to have genotoxic effects on mammalian cells and carcinogenic potential in animal studies. Tetraconazole is used as a solid dispersion for the treatment of various fungal infections, including Candida albicans, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Microsporum canis. Tetraconazole is available commercially as a powder formulation that can be dissolved in water or other solvents.
