Triflusulfuron is a chemical that belongs to the group of triazolopyrimidines. It is used as an herbicide for the control of weeds in field crops, such as corn, cotton, soybeans, and wheat. Triflusulfuron inhibits microbial metabolism by inhibiting fatty acid biosynthesis and transport inhibition. It also has synergistic effects when combined with piperonyl butoxide. Triflusulfuron is applied at an effective dose of 0.5-1.0 kg/ha or higher to control velvetleaf and other broadleaf weeds in cotton fields. The chemical is not active against grasses like corn, but it can be used to control weeds such as pigweed in soybean fields. Triflusulfuron has been shown to be toxic to mammals including humans; its LD50 values are over 5 g/kg when administered orally to rats or mice.
