Description

Tryptamine is a naturally occurring monoamine that can be found in plants, animals, and humans. It is bound to the 5-HT2 receptor in the brain, where it affects mood and appetite. Tryptamine also has a role in cell physiology by regulating mitochondrial membrane potential and influencing thermodynamic data. Tryptamine's effects on human serum are not well understood but may be due to its ability to react with p-hydroxybenzoic acid. The function of tryptamine in the body is not well known but it is thought to act as an amine neurotransmitter or neuromodulator. Tryptamine may have a role in controlling movement, memory, and cognition.
