Description:Thiophene-2-acetamide is a lactamase inhibitor that inhibits the activity of β-lactamases, which are enzymes that hydrolyze the amide bond of penicillins and cephalosporins. This chemical has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on cancer cells in cell culture experiments. Thiophene-2-acetamide binds to the active site of β-lactamase and blocks its catalytic action. The inhibition of β-lactamases by thiophene-2-acetamide is reversible and competitive. It also has been shown to be effective against MRSA isolates resistant to other antibiotics.
