- Pyridazine, 3,4,5-trichloro-
3,4,5-Trichloropyridazine is an n-oxide that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. It has been used in the treatment of hyperproliferative diseases and as an anticancer drug. 3,4,5-Trichloropyridazine can be synthesized by reacting a pyridine with chlorine gas in a solvent. The first step consists of the addition of chlorine to the pyridine ring by electrophilic substitution. This reaction introduces a chlorine atom into the molecule, which is then oxidized to form the n-oxide. The final product is a highly reactive species that can react with various organic molecules and human cells. 3,4,5-Trichloropyridazine has been shown to induce oxidative stress in cancer cells and induce apoptosis in macrophages.
