Tsugaric acid A is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is found in the macrofungus Ganoderma lucidum. Tsugaric acid A has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on rat neutrophils and may be used to treat inflammatory diseases. It also has antioxidant, neuroprotective, and anti-cancer properties. Tsugaric acid A has been shown to have antiviral properties against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). It can also inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) with IC50 values of 0.5 μM and 4 μM respectively. Tsugaric acid A also has radical scavenging activities that may be responsible for its antioxidant activity.
