Tetramethylbenzene is an organic compound with the molecular formula C6H4(CH3)4. It is a colorless liquid. Tetramethylbenzene is used as a precursor to other chemicals and as a solvent for waxes, resins, and oils. The steric interactions between the methyl groups in tetramethylbenzene are important for its reaction mechanism. Tetramethylbenzene reacts with hydrochloric acid to form hydrocarbons.
