4-(2-Thienyl)aniline is a fluorescent molecule that absorbs light at wavelengths longer than 300 nm. It is used to monitor reactions, such as the interaction of anions and cations. 4-(2-Thienyl)aniline has shown an ability to enhance the efficiency of solar cells by absorbing ultraviolet light and converting it into visible light. The fluorescence intensity of 4-(2-thienyl)aniline changes with temperature, which can be measured using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). This chemical reaction also causes a change in the optical properties of this compound.
