(R)-1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-propanol is an inhibitor of the enzyme carbonyl reductase, which catalyzes the reduction of ketones to alcohols. This chemical also inhibits dehydrogenase enzymes that catalyze reactions involving oxidation or reduction of a single substrate molecule. (R)-1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-propanol functions as a competitive inhibitor at this site and prevents the substrate from entering the active site.
