Thiophosphoryl chloride is an inorganic acid that reacts with fatty acids to form thiophosphoryl. It is a component of the reaction solution for the preparation of monoclonal antibodies. This compound can also be used as a catalyst in organic reactions, such as the synthesis of anhydrous sodium chlorides. Thiophosphoryl chloride can react with hydrogen fluoride to form phosphorus and hydrochloric acid, which are then reacted with an aryl halide to produce a mono-substituted phosphine. Thiophosphoryl chloride has been shown to have antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and influenza A virus (IAV).
