Description:

Tenofovir disoproxil dimer is an organic solvent that has been used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. It is used to treat hepatitis B and C, and HIV-1 infection. Tenofovir disoproxil dimer is a crystalline form of tenofovir, which is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor that blocks the synthesis of viral DNA. Tenofovir disoproxil dimer binds to aspartic acid through hydrophobic interactions, thereby preventing its conversion into asparagine, which is an amino acid that is necessary for protein biosynthesis. The salt compound tenofovir binds to other ions (e.g., sodium) by ionic interactions, forming a crystalline form with different physicochemical properties than the free acid form.
