Treosulfan is a chemotherapeutic agent that is used for the treatment of pediatric cancers. It has minimal toxicity and can be given in doses that are sublethal to normal cells. Treosulfan has been shown to have a significant therapeutic effect on solid tumours in vitro. The cell line K562 was used to measure the cytotoxicity of treosulfan. Treosulfan induces apoptosis by inhibiting cellular metabolism, which leads to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species and DNA damage. This drug also inhibits tumor growth by blocking protein synthesis and transcriptional activity, as well as inducing differentiation.
