Description

Tricyclodecenyl acetate is a diphenyl ether that has been used as an antimicrobial additive in detergent compositions. It has the ability to form a film on the surface of the fabric and can be used to make microcapsules containing active substances. Tricyclodecenyl acetate is also able to entrain air within the film, which gives it a pleasant scent. This compound has shown antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, and gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. Tricyclodecenyl acetate also has cationic surfactant properties that allow it to act as an absorption enhancer for fatty acids.
