Thiotriazinone is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antibiotic drug. It has been shown to be active against bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics, such as group P2 bacteria. Thiotriazinone is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Thiotriazinone binds to the cell wall of bacteria by hydrogen bonding with the nitrogen atoms of the amino groups in peptidoglycan. It also inhibits bacterial growth by competitively inhibiting the enzyme D-alanine: D-alanine ligase, which is involved in the synthesis of cell wall peptidoglycan.
