• Description: Tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate is a colorless liquid that has been shown to be carcinogenic. It is used in the production of polyurethane foam and in the manufacture of some plastics and adhesives. The compound reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid, which may cause damage to lungs or other parts of the respiratory system. Tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate has been shown to produce DNA damage in human bronchial cells. Tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate also causes an increase in body mass index (BMI) in humans. Studies have found that exposure to this chemical may lead to toxicity in humans.
