Description:Tramadol hydrochloride is an opioid analgesic that has been used as a pain reliever and anti-diarrheal. It is also used to treat severe pain in cancer patients who are not responsive to other types of pain medication. Tramadol hydrochloride binds to the mu-opioid receptor and inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine by binding to their respective receptors. It has been shown to inhibit ion channels, such as voltage-gated sodium channels and calcium channels. Tramadol hydrochloride has also been shown to bind with high affinity to a number of proteins including human serum albumin (HSA) and alpha2-macroglobulin (A2M). The affinity of tramadol for HSA may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of A2M, which degrades HSA.
