N-Trityl candesartan is a benzimidazole derivative. It is a prodrug that is activated by esterases to the active form, candesartan. Candesartan has been shown to be effective in the treatment of high blood pressure when combined with cilexetil, but not when used alone. The regression analysis data showed that N-trityl candesartan was more potent than candesartan in lowering blood pressure in rats. This analog also had improved uptake and metabolism compared to its parent compound.
