Description:

Titanium (IV) propoxide is a coating material that reacts with aromatic hydrocarbons to form an adherent, hard, and abrasion-resistant film. The reaction mechanism of titanium (IV) propoxide is based on the addition of titanium tetrachloride to the substrate surface, followed by oxidation and subsequent polymerization. Titanium (IV) propoxide has been shown to be a good candidate for gas sensors because it can detect low concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide at room temperature. It also has good kinetic energy, which makes it suitable as a superparamagnetic iron oxide particle in magnetic resonance imaging. Titanium (IV) propoxide can be synthesized by reacting titanium tetrachloride with an alkaline solution or cationic surfactant. This compound is used in optical coatings for its color stability and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy because it has no absorption bands in the visible region.
