Description

2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-dioxolane is an organic solvent that has a boiling point of 75°C. It is used in the production of epoxides and dibutyltin oxide, which can be found in paints and varnishes. 2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-dioxolane has been shown to have a high affinity for lung epithelial cells with a binding constant of 1.5x10M. This compound also binds to silicon in the bladder and breaks down into isobutene and chloride. 2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-dioxolane is biodegradable and easily metabolized by microorganisms.
