L-Tryptophanol is a natural enantiopure amino acid that is found in the seeds of many plants. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of viruses, including HIV and influenza A virus. L-Tryptophanol inhibits viral replication by interfering with the function of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme involved in viral DNA synthesis. L-Tryptophanol also has antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and cytomegalovirus (CMV).
