Tangeretin is a natural product that has been shown to have anticancer activities. It also has potential as a drug for the treatment of bacterial infections, and may be effective against various strains of bacteria. Tangeretin inhibits the activity of protein kinase C (PKC) in cells and has been shown to regulate glucose homeostasis and protect liver function. This compound also inhibits the expression of genes involved in cell response, such as tangeretin, which regulates the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. Tangeretin is found in the oil phase of plants and is structurally similar to ursolic acid. It contains a 5-hydroxyl group on its benzene ring.
