5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoxaline is an organic compound that is found in the essential oil of pine trees. It is a monoterpene hydrocarbon with a chemical formula of C10H14N2. The compound has been synthesized by reacting α-pinene and trimethyl trifluoromethyl ketone. The reaction yield was calculated to be approximately 98%. Impurities were detected in the product using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS). The GCMS analysis revealed that these impurities are dioxime and serotonin. 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoxaline reacts with redox reagents such as ferric chloride to form a dioxime. This reaction can also be used for biochemical analysis. 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoxaline is reactive towards neurons and displays thermochromism when heated or cooled.
