The mechanism of action for 8-TRifluoromethylquinoline is not fully understood but may involve inhibition of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV by binding to amines or benzylamine derivatives in the bacterial cell wall. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division.
