Tributyl-(4-chloro-phenyl)-stannane is a chlorinating agent that can be used to introduce chlorine into organic compounds. Tributyl-(4-chloro-phenyl)-stannane reacts with tosylate and chloramine-T to form benzene derivatives. It is a nucleophilic reagent, which means it has the ability to attack the electron pair in an atom or molecule of an electrophile, such as hydroxide ion. When tributyl-(4-chloro-phenyl)-stannane reacts with hydroxide ion, the chloride is replaced by hydrogen, forming tributyltin hydride and hydrochloric acid. Tributyl-(4-chloro-phenyl)-stannane is radioactive because it contains a radioactive isotope of chlorine. The isotope has been found in three forms: 35Cl (99%), 37Cl (0.3%), and 38Cl (0.
