Description:
3-Thienylalanine is an amino acid that is found in the pancreas. It functions as a ligand, binding to metal ions such as copper and zinc. 3-Thienylalanine has been shown to act as a substrate for the enzyme histidine decarboxylase. This chemical reaction results in the release of carbon dioxide and ammonia. 3-Thienylalanine also binds to hemoglobin, which is responsible for oxygen transport in mammals.
