(2H-Tetrazol-5-yl)methylamine is a sweetener that has been used as an analog of saccharin. It is not approved for use in the United States. The sweetness of (2H-tetrazol-5-yl)methylamine is due to its interaction with sodium ions, which make it a sodium salt. This compound is not sweet by itself but it does have optical properties that can be used to measure the concentration of sodium ions in solution.
