It also inhibits angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS). The compound binds to the active site of ACE and blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. This inhibition leads to a decrease in blood pressure. 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinoline-1-carboxylic acid is a competitive inhibitor of NOS, which prevents the production of nitric oxide.
