Product Information

Name:
Triphenylbismuth difluoride
Synonyms:
  • Difluorotriphenylbismuth
  • Bismuth, Difluorotriphenyl-
Description:

Triphenylbismuth difluoride is a fluorinated organometallic compound that has been used as a detergent additive in laundry and dishwashing products. It is also used in the synthesis of triarylbismuth, an important precursor for boronic esters, which are widely used as catalysts in organic reactions. Triphenylbismuth difluoride has an inhibitory effect on bacterial growth and is active against some strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This compound binds to the active site of metalloproteins, such as enzymes and non-enzymatic proteins, by coordinate covalent bonding with metal ions or by forming chelate complexes with metal ions.
