Product Information
- Tritylsulfenyl chloride
Triphenylmethanesulfenyl chloride is a nucleophilic reagent that reacts with hydrochloric acid to form triphenylmethanesulfonyl chloride. This compound is a key precursor in the synthesis of technetium-99m, which is used in diagnostic nuclear medicine. Triphenylmethanesulfenyl chloride was first synthesized by K. W. James and J. F. Danielli in 1961 as a means to produce Tc-99m by reacting it with Cl- via nucleophilic substitution at the sulfur atom. The macrocyclic structure of this compound has been determined using X-ray crystal structures and isolated yields have been shown to be high (typically >95%). Triphenylmethanesulfenyl chloride can also be used for the preparation of other organic compounds, such as carbodiimides and carboxamides, through its reaction with carbonic anhydrase or carbodiimide respectively.
