Tris(trimethylsilyl) phosphite (TTSP) is a diphenyl ether that has been used as an electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries. It has a second-order rate constant, which is the rate at which a chemical reaction proceeds. TTSP can undergo a number of chemical reactions including hydrogenation and halogenation, and can be used to synthesize coumarin derivatives. TTSP also interacts with lithium metal through an electrochemical process, where it reduces the lithium ion to lithium metal. This produces hydrogen gas and creates a new compound called lithium phosphite. Tris(trimethylsilyl) phosphite also has redox potentials that are higher than those of many other organic compounds, making it suitable for use in electrochemical applications such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
