Description:2-(p-Tolyl)pyridine is a compound that is used in electrochemical studies. It has an ancillary role in the reaction, but can be used to study the coordination geometry of the molecule. 2-(p-Tolyl)pyridine is a redox active molecule with a redox potential of -0.04 V vs. ferrocene/ferrocinium and has anticancer activity as well as photophysical properties. 2-(p-Tolyl)pyridine has been shown to have anti-cancer effects by inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential and preventing the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. In addition, 2-(p-tolyl) pyridine is able to bind to DNA bases and inhibit x-ray diffraction data formation.
