Tri-o-cresyl phosphate (TOCP) is a non-specific inhibitor of the enzyme activity that is an important part of the body's basic protein synthesis. It has been shown to inhibit antibody production and lymphocyte transformation. TOCP also inhibits transcription and replication by binding to DNA, causing cell death. In addition, TOCP has been shown to have chronic oral toxicity in rats and acute toxicities in mice. TOCP can be used as a marker for immunological diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, or sarcoidosis.
