Tetraethylammonium iodide is a chemical compound that is used as an analytical reagent. It is a salt of tetraethylammonium and iodine, with the chemical formula CHN:I. Tetraethylammonium iodide is soluble in water and reacts with acids to form salts. The temperature of the solution can be determined by titration calorimetry and the reaction mechanism has been studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Tetraethylammonium iodide has been shown to be toxic to neurons in vitro and can cause neuronal death, which may be due to its ability to bind chloride ions on neuronal membranes, leading to depolarization. This compound has also been shown to inhibit antibody response in vivo by interfering with calcium ion channels on the surface of B cells.
