Trichloro(propyl)silane is a glycol ester with a non-polar solvent and hydroxide solution. It is used to cross-link proteins by reacting with hydroxyl groups. Trichloro(propyl)silane is also used as a solid catalyst in the synthesis of various polymers, such as polyhydroxyalkanoates and polyurethanes. It has been used as a cross-linking agent for collagen fibers in the production of glycosaminoglycans. Trichloro(propyl)silane reacts with potassium dichromate to form a metal chelate that can be used to measure the concentration of chloride ions in human coli K-12 cells. This chemical also has high values for nmr spectra.
