Product Information

Name:
3,4,5-Trifluorobenzyl bromide
Synonyms:
  • 5-(Bromomethyl)-1,2,3-Trifluorobenzene
  • Benzene, 5-(bromomethyl)-1,2,3-trifluoro-
  • alpha-Bromo-3,4,5-trifluorotoluene
Description:

3,4,5-Trifluorobenzyl bromide is a derivatizing agent that has been used to analyze human urine samples. It is an alkylating agent which reacts with the hydrophilic functional groups on proteins to form an alkylated product. This process results in a decrease in the hydrophilicity of the protein and can be used as a quantitative measure of protein concentration in urine samples. 3,4,5-Trifluorobenzyl bromide has been shown to be effective for the analysis of endogenous compounds in urine samples. The matrix effect can be reduced by using microextraction techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction or solid phase extraction (SPE).
