Product Information
Name:Tetraethyleneglycol dimethyl ether
Synonyms:
- Bis(2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl)ether
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Tetraethyleneglycol dimethyl ether (TEGDME) is an ether that is used as an alternative to methyl ethyl ether. TEGDME is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of about 37 °C. It has a high resistance to water vapor, which makes it suitable for use in the production of polyurethane. TEGDME can be synthesized by the reaction of glycol with diethylzinc and triethylaluminum in the presence of water. The reaction mechanism involves formation of hydrogen bonding between the glycol and the diethylzinc, which leads to a change in electron density on the oxygen atom present on each molecule. This leads to a shift in electron density from one side of the oxygen atom to another, resulting in an out-of-equilibrium system. The equilibrium position is restored when thermal expansion causes hydrogen atoms on one side to move towards the other side, followed by rotation around the O-C bond
