Trifolirhizin is a natural compound extracted from the Chinese herb Cephalotaxus fortunei. It has been shown to have anti-tumor activity against human HL-60 cells in vitro. Trifolirhizin has also been found to inhibit epidermal growth factor (EGF) mediated signaling by binding to EGF receptors, which leads to the downregulation of mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibition of tumor cell proliferation. This compound has been tested in vivo in a xenograft model system in mice, where it was found that trifolirhizin inhibited tumor growth without any observed toxicity.
