2',3,5,7-Tetrahydroxyflavone is a bioactive flavonoid that has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential in squamous carcinoma cells. This compound also inhibited the proliferation of colon cancer cells. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of activated cation channels that are present in the membranes of mitochondria and other cellular organelles. In rat liver microsomes, 2',3,5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone was found to inhibit the metabolic activation of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and trifluoroacetic acid by metal chelating agents such as EDTA and DTPA. 2',3,5,7-Tetrahydroxyflavone may have potential for treating inflammatory bowel disease. Molecular docking analysis has suggested that this compound may bind to PXR nuclear receptors which have a role in the regulation of inflammatory bowel disease.
