Product Information

Name:
Tetratriacontane
Synonyms:
  • NSC 2998
  • n-Tetratriacontane
Description:

Tetratriacontane is a polymeric matrix that has been shown to inhibit RNA replication in bacteria. Tetratriacontane is a natural drug that is produced by the bacterium Bacillus subtilis and inhibits the growth of bacteria. It consists of a glycol ester and fatty acid, which are linked together by an ether bond. The polymeric matrix structure of tetratriacontane may be due to hydrogen bonding between its molecular chains. Tetratriacontane can also be used as an analytical method for determining the presence of cyclic peptides in bacterial strains. By using this technique, it was found that tetratriacontane could inhibit the growth of E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
