Description:Tetrachlorocatechol is a chlorinated cyclohexanol that has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the enzyme acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase. Tetrachlorocatechol inhibits the activity of this enzyme, which is involved in the synthesis of cholesterol and bile acids. This inhibition leads to a decrease in cell growth and proliferation. Tetrachlorocatechol has also been shown to have genotoxic properties, as it reacts with DNA to form stable complexes and induces mutations in cultured cells. Tetrachlorocatechol is not toxic for mice, as it is rapidly metabolized, but can be toxic for humans at high doses.
