Description:2,4,6-Tribromo-3,5-dimethylphenol is a brominated derivative of phenol. It is used as a reagent for epoxidation reactions because it reacts with molecular oxygen to form an epoxide. 2,4,6-Tribromo-3,5-dimethylphenol is also used in electrochemical methods to convert styrene into cyclohexene oxide and alcohols into carboxylic acids. The imidazole ring enables the molecule to undergo aromatization reactions and act as an ionic liquid catalyst. The reaction between 2,4,6-Tribromo-3,5-dimethylphenol and electrochemical oxidation is catalytic.
