2,4,6-Trihydroxypropiophenone is a pyrimidine compound that is used to synthesize the drug propranolol. 2,4,6-Trihydroxypropiophenone has been shown to have a potential use in the treatment of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and symptoms of Crohn’s disease. The mechanism of action for this drug is unknown but may be related to its ability to affect the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and TLR2. This suggests that 2,4,6-Trihydroxypropiophenone may be an effective therapeutic agent for PSC and Crohn’s disease. It also has an ability to inhibit the transport properties of fat from the gastrointestinal tract into blood.
