• Description: 3,4,5-Tribromobenzoic acid is a benzoic acid with the molecular formula C6H3Br3O2. It is used as a plant growth regulator in agriculture and gardening. 3,4,5-Tribromobenzoic acid may be applied to the surface of plants to stimulate abscission (the natural shedding of leaves) or excision (the removal of flowers). This chemical also has been shown to inhibit physiological activity in plants by inhibiting 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid synthesis. This inhibition leads to a reduction in the production of substances that are involved in physiological processes such as photosynthesis and protein synthesis.
