Tirucallol is a synthetic triterpene alcohol that is derived from oleanolic acid. It is an aromatic hydrocarbon, with a hydroxyl group and a fatty acid. Tirucallol has been shown to lower cholesterol levels in the blood and reduce the risk of coronary heart diseases by inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol. Tirucallol has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of lipids in animal models. The chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CI-MS) analysis showed that tirucallol contains 24-methylenecycloartanol and moronic acid, which are both found in oleanolic acid. The nmr spectrum showed that tirucallol has three methyl groups at C-24, C-25, and C-26.
