Tenuifoliside B is a natural product that has been synthesized from the saponins of the roots of the tenuifolia tree. Tenuifoliside B has an inhibitory effect on depression and is used in clinical studies to treat mild to moderate depression. It also has a vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) receptor-mediated vasodilatory effect and can be used as a treatment for hypertension. Tenuifoliside B is metabolized by CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and CYP2D6 into p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which may cause drug interactions with other drugs that are metabolized by these enzymes. The pharmacokinetic properties of tenuifoliside B have been studied in rats and pigs.
Tenuifoliside B shows efficient inhibition against acetylcholinesterase activity at a concentration of 10 μM, but less than 1% inhibition at 100 μM
