Tripropyl orthoformate is an organic compound that belongs to the class of hydroxybenzoic acids. It reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to form a polyoxalate ester. This reaction is catalyzed by acid, and the product is soluble in organic solvents. Tripropyl orthoformate has been used as a sample preparation agent for chemokine receptors, which are important in inflammatory diseases. The polymerization initiator can be hydroxyl group or aromatic hydrocarbon with trimethyl (CH3) group at one end that can react with a molecule containing a reactive functional group such as carboxylic acid, amine, or hydroxyl group.
