Description:

Tetrakis(dimethylsilyl)silane is a mesogenic liquid crystal that has been used in the synthesis of various mesogenic compounds. It can be used to synthesize low-molecular weight, volatile, and radiation-resistant mesogens. Tetrakis(dimethylsilyl)silane can also be used in the synthesis of class II liquid crystals. The most common use of this compound is as a reagent for hydrosilylation reactions with olefins. Tetrakis(dimethylsilyl)silane is soluble in organic solvents such as benzene, hexadecyl ether, and tetrahydrofuran. It is also soluble in water due to its hydrophilic nature. This compound has been shown to have an ultrasonic velocity of 1330 m/s at 20°C.
