Product Information
- 2-(2-Thienyl)-1,3-benzothiazole
- Benzothiazole, 2-(2-Thienyl)-
2-(2-Thienyl)benzothiazole is a ligand that binds to the active site of DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and inhibits transcription. It has been shown to have antitubercular activity in vitro, and its effects are related to its ability to interfere with the synthesis of DNA. The chemical synthesis of this compound has been shown to produce a number of different polymorphs. 2-(2-Thienyl)benzothiazole is also fluorescent, which makes it useful for photophysical studies. This compound can be used as a fluorescent probe for assays involving chloride ions or sulfoxide. 2-(2-Thienyl)benzothiazole is also able to interact with metal ions such as chromium, iron, nickel, and cobalt due to its chromophore system. In addition, this compound can undergo cross-coupling reactions with certain metals such as palladium or platinum.
