Product Information
2,2,2-Trifluoroethanethiol is a thiol compound that has been used as an analytical reagent and a chemical intermediate. This compound has been shown to have an optimal reaction temperature of -10°C to -5°C and can be used in kinetic studies to determine the rate of disulfide bond formation. The intramolecular hydrogen bonding in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanethiol is stabilized by the presence of the thiolate group (-SH), which can be observed by its redox potential (E’). Hydrogen bonding with specific molecules such as potassium phosphate can also be observed in this molecule. 2,2,2-Trifluoroethanethiol can be activated by oxidation or reduction reactions. The activation energy for these reactions is 10 kcal/mol and 6 kcal/mol respectively. The vibrational spectrum for this compound has been determined using nmr spectroscopy.
